Saskia’s lucky day
This story is written by PetSmart Charities’ roving reporter, Karen Lien Miller
If dogs could play the lottery, Saskia, a lively Samoyed mix, should have picked up a ticket last Sunday. It was definitely her lucky day.
After living at the Cache Creek Animal Shelter for an extended period, Saskia had two families ready to take her home.
Special dog, special family
Her original adoptive mother, who is handicapped, reluctantly turned over Saskia to the shelter more than a year ago. As Saskia grew to an adult, so did her energy level and she simply required more care.
“We were originally looking to adopt a puppy,” said Kristen, the mother. “But, then we saw Saskia. She’s just like our Samoyed at home, but exactly the opposite coloring.”
Are they ready to take on Saskia’s energetic personality?
“Please, I have four kids aged 9 to 17, I think we can handle it,” joked Kristen.
Just after Kristen and Saskia left, another family arrived at the event hoping to adopt Saskia. They had visited the previous day. As I walked away, I heard a clearly annoyed teenager boy say, “Dad, I told you not to wait!”
I suppose Saskia had taken her good luck home with her.
